CELBAN Test Information

The CELBAN test refers to the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses. It is an English language proficiency exam specifically designed for Internationally Educated Nurses who wish to practice in Canada. The test assesses listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills relevant to nursing practice. 

CELBAN Reading:

When you read, you're practicing understanding information and getting things done. You might need to find specific details or follow instructions.

☐  You'll need to understand how sentences are put together and how paragraphs are organized. 

You'll also need to know about different styles of writing and how to read them.

CELBAN Writing:

Writing helps you share information clearly and interact with others. You might write things like reports or letters that are like what you'd use in real-life situations.

☐  Make sure you know how to write sentences correctly, use punctuation, and spell words right. 

You'll also need to understand different types of writing for different situations.

CELBAN Listening:

Listening lets you understand information and talk with others. You might listen to things like patient stories or conversations between healthcare workers.

☐  Pay attention to how sentences are said and how words are used. 

You'll also need to understand what different sounds and tones in their voices mean.

CELBAN Speaking:

Speaking helps you talk clearly and interact with others in different healthcare situations. You might practice talking in role-plays or discussions.

☐  You'll also need to know how to organize your ideas and use the right language for different situations.


By learning about how reading, writing, listening, and speaking connect to the skills of Understanding Information, Getting Things Done, Giving and Receiving Information, and Interacting with Others, you can get ready for the test and get better at using English in healthcare.
